Huron Breeze Cottage is located right in the heart of downtown Mackinaw City. During your visit, you can leave your car parked in one of the two designated parking spots and walk to almost anywhere.
Explore exhibits and learn about life at the historic lighthouse at one of Mackinaw City's most visited attractions. This long-standing beacon was founded in 1889 and served until the construction of the Mackinaw Bridge in 1957. Take a tower tour, watch a short movie, and enjoy interactive exhibits that bring the past to life.
Take a walk under the Mackinac Bridge and enjoy a beautiful sunset at Alexander Henry Park on the shore of the lake. Visitors and locals love this spot for its tucked-away location and great amenities. This park is located next to the Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse, so it's a great place to visit after heading there. Bring a picnic lunch, sit at the many tables in the park, and watch passing ships.
The USGC Mackinaw WAGB-83 sailed the Great Lakes for over 60 years, from WWII until 2006, when it was decommissioned. Since then, it has become a popular spot for visitors, offering an up-close view of life aboard an Icebreaker; tour this 290-foot vessel where you can see the inner working of the ship in the Engine Room as well as the Captains Quarters and more!
When you are visiting Mackinaw City, you have to take a trip to Mackinac Island. The only way to get to the island is by taking a ferry. The Starline Ferry is right across the street from the Huron Breeze Cottage.
Mackinac Island is unique because there are no vehicles on the island, although you can find horse-drawn carriages and lots of bikes for rent. There are 13 different fudge shops on the island if you love fudge.
While on the island, you can tour Fort Mackinac, an old Colonial-era British fort. Or you can hike some of the beautiful nature trails found throughout Mackinac Island State Park, which makes up over 80% of the island.
Want to have a picnic? Head on over to the Mackinaw City Marina, where you can find picnic areas and outdoor grills right by the water. You can also rent bicycles at the marina or put your boat in the water and get out on the Straits of Mackinac and Lake Huron.
Chase the waterfalls at Tahquamenon Falls State Park, where breathtaking natural beauty is all around. This park offers year-round fun with summer swimming, the lower falls, fantastic fall foliage, and snowshoeing in the wintertime. Follow the steps down to the viewing area to watch the amber-colored water drop 50 feet down and explore the rest of the park, which has something for everyone. You can even rent a canoe and head to the river islands for an extra adventure!
Look up to the stars at Headlands International Dark Sky Park. This county park is nestled on the western edge of Mackinaw City, where you can head down to a shoreline surrounded by an old-growth forest. This park has ideal stargazing conditions, which is why it was designated a Dark Sky Park by the International Dark-Sky Association. You'll be able to see many constellations and might even get a chance to view aurora borealis from the shore!
Across the Mackinac Bridge in St Ignace, you can visit Castle Rock. Ascend the steps, enjoy Lake Huron's panoramic views, and snap a few photos while at the top. After you've finished, head to the gift shop, which has a wide array of souvenirs to take home.
The Star Line Ferry operates all year long, offering shuttle service to Mackinac Island. You can also take a pirate cruise and a sunset sail on their unique ships. The ferry is conveniently located just a 1/4 mile from your door!
Mackinaw City has many restaurants and diners available for tourists looking to experience the local scenery and flavor.
